Univeristy of Louisiana System schools are helping McNeese State students displaced by Hurricane Laura. UL System President Jim Henderson says more than 200 McNeese students have registered for the Cowboy Relief Effort that allows these students to use a variety of resources at other campuses.
“Ranging everywhere from academic counseling, to library access, to technology access, even in some cases to housing,” said Henderson.
For example, Ashlee Sebren from Jackson Parish, is using libraries at both U-L-M and Louisiana Tech University.
“The universities have been so welcoming and accepting, and I actually fell like a college student again thanks to them,” said Sebren.
Henderson says it is a rewarding effort for the other schools of the UL System to step up with assistance and says the message to McNeese State students is clear.
“We’ve got your back, we’re in this together, we share the same mission, we’re sister institutions, we want to help you,” said Henderson.
Henderson says so far the response has been tremendous from students relieved to hear this type of help is available.
“As cell coverage starts to kick in and electricity is being restored and services are back on for these students, then it just enhances our ability to reach them and we are going to continue to be aggressive so no student is left behind,” said Henderson.
