Calcasieu Parish is still picking up the pieces from Hurricane Laura and now the area is bracing for Hurricane Delta, which is expected to make landfall in southwest Louisiana Friday afternoon or early evening. Parish President Tony Guillory says for the second time in 43 days they’ve called for a mandatory evacuation.
“Those people are just coming back, trying to get their lives together, now we’re asking them to leave again. It’s just disheartening on the city of Lake Charles and the whole Calcasieu Parish,” said Guillory.
Guillory says concerns are high that some of the unsecured debris still left over from Laura and makeshift repairs are making the area more vulnerable, even if Delta’s intensity isn’t considered to be a major hurricane.
“People that have the blue roofs that may blow off. There are a lot of loose limbs that are put into piles. It’s just not a good situation,” said Guillory.
Guillory says for those that are choosing to stay for the storm, they should prepare to rough it for several days.
“I ask that everyone fill up their cars, get enough supplies. We may be without power, we may be without water,” said Guillory.
