The crowds under the Friday Night Lights tonight will double in 26 parishes after Governor Edwards amends the state health order allowing a capacity increase at outdoor high school sporting events.
“We are going to allow stadiums to move to 50 percent capacity if they are in a parish with a less than 5 percent positivity rate for the previous two weeks from the most recent reports by LDH.”
Stadiums had been capped at 25-percent capacity.
Parishes, where the positivity rate of COVID cases are 5-percent or less in the previous two weeks, will be allowed to expand capacity.
Edwards says it’s similar to the approach made with bars.
“However we’re not gonna require schools, or school districts, or parishes to opt in, but their capacity can be 50 percent if they meet the criteria.”
Edwards encouraged residents to continue to practice social distancing and wear face masks so capacity numbers can remain at 50-percent and remaining parishes can increase crowd sizes as well.
“As with bars, if a parishes positivity rate gets back up to 10 percent or more for two weeks they will go back to having a 25 percent capacity.”
The Louisiana Department of Health updates parish positivity rates, weekly every Wednesday.
