An effective Taysom Hill and a stout defense led to the Saints seventh straight win as New Orleans defeated its NFC South rival Atlanta 24-9. Hill filled in for the injured Drew Brees and threw for 233 yards and rushed for two touchdowns. Hill credits Brees for helping him to get ready for his first NFL start.
“Drew was with me every step of the way this week,” said Hill. “We watched film, he constantly asked me what I needed and how he can be helpful and he was so critical, he was such a comfort for me to have around, I look up to him so much, he’s one of my best friends,” said Hill.
The Saints defense might have been the bigger story. The Black and Gold intercepted Atlanta Quarterback Matt Ryan twice and sacked him eight times. New Orleans defensive end Trey Hendrickson had two more sacks and credits game plan and execution.
“I mean sacks come when DBs are covering, linebackers are covering or blitzing, d-linemen are finishing their rush, it’s a team game for a reason, nothing can get done if eleven guys are not working together,” said Hendrickson.
The victory improves the Saints record to 8-2. They own the best record in the NFC after the Packers lost in overtime to the Colts.
New Orleans will visit Denver next Sunday. The Broncos beat the Dolphins in the Mile High City.
