High School Football Fans will begin flocking to Natchitoches Saturday to attend the annual Louisiana High School Athletic Associations’ Prep Classic. Kelli West, spokesperson for the Natchitoches Parish Tourist Commission said they are looking forward to new visitors.
“This gives them the opportunity to come and see a new part of the state, a new town, all while cheering on their favorite team,” said West.
The games were moved away from New Orleans due to COVID restrictions this year.
West said fans can get an early start on taking in the sites Saturday night with a fireworks show before games kick off on Sunday. They can also bask in the city’s renowned Christmas lights.
“The lights will be on every evening, our horse and carriage rides will be running, our paddleboat tours will be running, so there are lots of ways to take in the Natchitoches Christmas lights and scenes,” said West
Natchitoches will be catering to football fans by extending hours for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and the Northwest Louisiana History Museum. West said there is plenty of activities for visitors.
“Our National Parks will be open, our shops downtown, our Christmas in the Park attraction will be open, our alligator park will be open. Lots of things to see and do,” said West.
Natchitoches is also home to the house featured in the 1989 film Steel Magnolias.
The games will be played at Northwestern State, Sunday through Wednesday.
