LSU-Health Shreveport is hosting a drive-thru clinic to administer the Pfizer COVID Vaccine. Tuesday was the first day of the clinic with more than a thousand doses administered. School Chancellor Dr. G.E. Ghali said the clinic at the fairgrounds in Shreveport is open to any state resident age 70 and older. Just bring your ID and insurance card.
“You don’t even have to get out of your car, just wear comfortable clothing where you can roll your sleeve up easily and get the shot in the arm, stay in the car, you have to wear a mask,” said Ghali.
You can either pre-register online or on-site for the vaccine. Ghali said they have two tents set up at the Fairgrounds and school staff and students are also being assisted by the National Guard. Ghali said the whole process takes about an hour and after your shot…
“Then they pull thru the tent and park in the large parking area. We have nurses that are monitoring in that area. If patients have any issues or any questions, they honk their horn, the nurse will go to their car. They have to wait a mandatory fifteen minutes,” said Ghali.
You’ll also be scheduled for a follow-up to receive the second shot.
As for any adverse reactions to the vaccine, Ghali said between the school of medicine and their partners they have not had any so far.
“We haven’t had any thankfully any serious reactions to it at all and we’ve administered between 4,000 vaccines,” said Ghali.
The drive-thru clinic is scheduled to be open until Friday, 8 am until 3:30 PM, or until they run out of vaccines. You can preregister or register on-site at www.lsuhs.edu
