A suspect who allegedly stole a Dodge Charger in New Orleans died in a fiery wreck and injured three workers on I-10 just outside Lafayette after being pursued by police.
State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says the driver allegedly stole the vehicle in New Orleans, was spotted in Iberville, and pursued to the Louisiana Avenue Westbound lane on I-10.
“We were able to set up spikes but they had no effect on stopping the vehicle. He continued on and entered into a coned off area on I-10 where he struck a work vehicle that had just finished putting out the cone,” said Gossen.
Gossen says after striking the construction work truck the vehicle was engulfed in flames and the driver was unable to exit. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene and the three workers were taken to the hospital, but are expected to recover.
The suspect is currently unidentified due to the severity of the crash. His heavily charred remains have been sent back to a lab for testing.
