Louisiana Tech’s Forever Loyal Campaign exceeded its goal and raised more than $171 million for the University. LA Tech President Dr. Les Guice says the campaign which began November 2018 originally set out to raise $125 million.
“In part because we were celebrating our 125th birthday and we did some analysis to envision what we thought could be raised and we are continuing to raise funds,” said Guice.
Guice says the funds have already been used to assist students and they have other infrastructure projects in the works.
“A big part of this has also been developing a 21st-century campus to really build great facilities and address some of our campus’s accessibility challenges and beautification needs,” said Guice.
The La Tech campus was heavily damaged in April 2019 by a deadly EF3 tornado, the majority of that damage was to their athletic facilities.
Guice says the unfortunate event helped spur donations.
“One of the largest days of giving was just a few days after the tornado passed through, it just blew us away. It was just over a million dollars that was raised that day,” said Guice.
Guice says parts of that significant donation of $1-million went towards helping students and staff who were affected by the tornado.
The university says over 23,500 donors made more than 100,000 individual donations.
