Four girls ranging from the ages of 12 to 14 are under arrest in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old girl inside a Walmart in Lake Charles on Saturday night. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso is not releasing many details but says the whole crime played out over social media.
“There appeared to be no remorse, it was very cold to see 12,13.14 and 15 year-olds acting this way and we as a society can’t tolerate it,” said Mancuso.
He says the knife used in the murder was stolen from the store.
The sheriff’s office has charged one of the juveniles with second-degree murder and the three other girls are charged with principal to second degree murder.
Mancuso is pleading with parents to monitor what their children are doing over their phone.
“You need to see what these children are doing and you can do that it’s whether you choose to or not,” said Mancuso.
Mancuso says this is third homicide in six months in Calcasieu Parish that involved juveniles. He says his agency is taking a zero tolerance stance on curfew violations, but it will take more than law enforcement to end this cycle of children committing violent crimes.
“It’s going to take parenting, knowing where their kids are, what they are involved in, what they are doing and I’m just pleading and urging for you to do that,” said Mancuso.
