LSU Health Shreveport is holding another round of drive-thru COVID vaccinations this week. Louisiana residents 70 and older can be vaccinated Monday through Thursday at the State Fairgrounds in Shreveport from 8 AM to 3:30 PM. School Chancellor Dr. G.E. Ghali explains the process.
“They just drive up, get the shot, pull into a parking spot, wait 15 minutes, and then they’re able to drive away and they’re given an appointment to come back for their second dose in three weeks,” said Dr. Ghali.
First vaccine doses will be given out Monday, while first and second doses will be available Tuesday through Thursday.
Dr. Ghali said once vaccinated with the first dose at one of their clinics you are guaranteed a second.
“So, when we get a shipment that’s intended as a second dose shipment for folks, we don’t use that as a first dose for other people, we hold that as a second dose,” said Dr. Ghali.
Vaccinations are open to Louisiana residents age 70 and older. Dr. Ghali said some have driven hours to be inoculated.
“Many of them have come here from Opelousas, from Lafayette, from Lake Charles from really all over the state,” said Dr. Ghali.
