A fatal hit and run on Highway 165 over the weekend claims the lives of two teenagers and has landed a Monroe man in jail.
State Police Trooper Michael Reichardt says 22-year-old Corey Buie was traveling south when he struck two people who were crossing at night. He then allegedly left without calling it in.
“He actually just walked home, he left the scene, and the car was there so that is how we had the information to end up talking to him,” said Reichardt.
The victims have been identified as 17-year-old Brianna Neal and 18-year-old Shedricka Hollins, both of Monroe.
Reichardt says if you strike a pedestrian, even if it may not be your fault, you must call 9-1-1 and wait for the authorities to arrive.
“It is bad enough that those two females died but unfortunately he went to jail for hit and run driving because he left the scene of the crash, and if something like that happens you need to stay and report it right then,” said Reichardt.
Both Hollins and Neal were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation and toxicology samples were collected.
