Shreveport Police have arrested a 27-year-old man who went inside Ochsner LSU Health and wounded two individuals with a large knife. Sergeant Glen Heckard says one of the victims was the mother of the suspect, Zaokoye Chatman.
“He wasn’t a patient, he just randomly showed up at the hospital from what we’ve been able to determine and he was armed with a large knife and actually cut two of the medical staff there,” said Heckard.
Heckard says Chatman fled the hospital after the attack, but later surrendered to authorities. He says there are media reports that New Orleans homicide detectives are trying to determine if Chatman committed a fatal machete attack at a New Orleans gas station on Sunday because the suspect in both cases drove a similar green Saturn SUV.
“It’s not a really clear image of the suspect that may resemble some of the characteristics of the vehicle’s suspect description, but as of now we haven’t confirmed any of this,” said Heckard.
Heckard says they do not know why Chatman attacked the two workers at Ochsner LSU Health.
“Something definitely is wrong with that picture, for somebody is willing to go into a hospital and attack, especially your mom and another victim,” said Heckard.
