About 100 students held a sit-in outside of LSU’s Football Operations Building calling on LSU officials to fire athletic administrators Verge Ausberry and Miriam Segar based on findings released last week in the Husch Blackwell report. The students are part of a group called Tigers Against Sexual Assault.
“No one taking responsibility for the violence against students was really startling, and I would like to continue to use my voice to empower students and hopefully see some action like firing the people responsible,” said a member of Tigers Against Sexual Assault.
LSU interim president Thomas Galligan has only suspended Ausberry for 30 days and Segar for 21-days without pay.
Protesters say the suspensions of only two athletic officials after the school spent thousands on the Husch Blackwell report to investigate mishandlings of sexual assault and abuse are not enough.
“With the 30-day suspension without pay and 21-day suspension without pay simply do not do justice to the survivors and to the victims of these coverups,” said one protester.
One protester said she has lost all faith in the university and she’s not alone.
“I can see that a lot across the nation, people have very little faith in this university right now. Actually, the day that they released the decision I had several private colleges email me about transferring,” said another protestor.
