The Louisiana Department of Health mandates allowing indoor visitation at all times at nursing homes and adult residential facilities, assuming they meet certain criteria.
LDH says declining community spread means it’s safe for responsibly managed indoor visitation. AARP Louisiana Associate Director of Advocacy Andrew Muhl said unless you have COVID you can see your family.
“Under these new rules facilities should allow responsible indoor visitation for residents at all times regardless of a visitor or resident’s vaccination status,” said Muhl.
Parishes with positivity rates of above ten percent will not be included in the new, relaxed guidelines as will facilities where fewer than 70 percent of residents are vaccinated. As of the most recent numbers, all parishes qualify.
Muhl said this is a big win for residents and their families, some of whom have not seen each other in a year.
“We have of course been hearing stories of family members who have been separated from their loved ones for such a long time. It’s been another devastating effect of this pandemic,” said Muhl.
The new regulations went into effect Friday.
