Authorities recover the remains of a Natchitoches Parish woman who went missing in 1993 at the bottom of the Cane River.
Kara Vaughn left her home on November 3rd 1993 and never returned. Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Captain Tony Moran said back during last month’s winter storm they got a call from a fisherman.
“He had found what appeared to be a submerged vehicle in Cane River approximately ten to twelve feet deep just south of Natchitoches,” said Moran.
Dive teams began searching the river on March 12th and by March 15th had discovered the submerged vehicle.
After going missing Vaughn was entered into the National Crime Information Center along with her vehicle.
“Since that time we have received information from family members that she had threatened on prior occasions to run her car into Cane River and never be found,” said Moran who added multiple unsuccessful searches of the River have been conducted over the years.
Moran said it’s a sad end to the story but at least the family knows what happened.
“It didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to but at least they have some closure and know where Ms. Vaughn is,” said Moran.
Identification was found on the body, but other tests will be conducted to confirm it is in fact Kara Vaughn.
