A mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado that killed ten people has sparked new calls from President Biden for Congress to pass a high-capacity magazine and assault rifle ban.
Senator Bill Cassidy said we don’t know enough details about the shooting or shooter to be making these kinds of statements.
“I don’t know if any of that would actually address the circumstances in Boulder,” said Cassidy.
The weapon used in the Boulder grocery store shooting has been described as an “AR-15 style pistol”.
Cassidy said the left has a habit of overreaching in these kinds of situations.
“Oftentimes gun control measures would never address the issue of that particular incident, but is used as a reason to bring in other gun control measures,” said Cassidy.
The President also called for the Senate to pass two House-backed bills that would close certain gun-buying loopholes. Cassidy said there’s already a lot of laws on the books, they just aren’t being enforced properly.
“You could argue that any law has to be used appropriately if we are actually going to address this,” said Cassidy.
