Commissioner on Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed
In response to mishandling of previous sexual misconduct cases at LSU, the Louisiana Board of Regents wants to make sure every college and university in Louisiana has a system in place to properly respond to claims of sexual abuse or sexual harassment. Higher Education Commissioner Kim Hunter Reed has sent a letter to college governing board leaders.
“Asking for some very specific information from them, about compliance, accountability, and transparency when it comes to sexual misconduct,” said Reed.
Reed says they want answers by April 9th.
Reed says the Board is concerned after the Husch Blackwell report detailed LSU’s failure to handle sexual misconduct incidents and she says those mistakes can not be repeated
“This is an opportunity for one institution that has systemic failure to do much better, but for all institutions to take a look at what they are doing, their policies and practices,” said Reed.
Reed said this is an opportunity to see where there are gaps in Title IX offices and correct them in addressing sexual misconduct.
