Beginning Monday everyone sixteen and older is eligible to be vaccinated for COVID in Louisiana. Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association President Randall Johnson said they have received numerous inquiries to book appointments.
“All in the effort of trying to work to protect their health and improve their health and improve the health of their communities and the ability to interact with their friends and loved ones,” said Johnson.
Johnson said pharmacists will be using the one does Johnson & Johnson vaccine and the two-dose series of Moderna and Pfizer. The vaccines are approved for ages 18 and up, except Pfizer, which is approved for ages 16 and up.
“We’re starting to see some schools and some school folks in our high schools that are looking for them to be able to take that vaccine,” said Johnson.
When you show up for your appointment Johnson said to be sure to bring your ID and insurance card, if you have one. The vaccine must be entered as a prescription, and so your information can be entered correctly in the vaccine registry in case you forget which vaccine and the date you received your injection.
“Having your identification or your insurance card with that information, it may have it on there, would benefit the process in entering your prescription in a valid manner to make sure there’s good record keeping,” said Johnson.
