This year’s Bayou Classic between Grambling and Southern won’t be played in the Superdome, it’ll be this Saturday at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.
Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau President Stacy Brown said the rivalry will bring in fans from around the state, giving the local economy a three million dollar boost.
“We have a lot of people coming in, in fact, we are almost sold out on hotel rooms so if you are coming get a room quick,” said Brown.
It’s a big get for northwest Louisiana and Brown said they’ll be showing off the city with Port Fest and Party on the Red, an event at the Festival Plaza running both Friday and Saturday five to midnight.
“It’s a great event with all kinds of food, music, and entertainment,” said Brown.
The Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce will also host an expo featuring speakers and networking opportunities.
Brown said the game and surrounding celebrations will be walkable and she encourages you to use free transportation courtesy of Sportram.
“You don’t’ have to worry about getting in your car after you’ve had a little adult beverage,” said Brown.
Southern leads the series 36-33 and kickoff is 1:30 PM.
