The search for LSU’s next head baseball coach continues as Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco has removed his name as a candidate and agreeing to a four-year contract extension with Ole Miss. LSU beat reporter with the USA Today Network Glen Guilbeau says Bianco could not wait around for an offer after he was interviewed last week by LSU athletics director Scott Woodward.
“He didn’t get an offer and Mike is at a major school, it’s not like he’s at East Carolina or some small school, he’s at another SEC West school he can’t be out waiting for the LSU job while he’s at Ole Miss for very long.”
With Bianco no longer a candidate, Guilbeau says LSU has now shifted its focus to three coaches in the College World Series.
“He’s considering Jay Johnson at Arizona, Tim Corbin at Vanderbilt, and Tony Vitello at Tennessee, Jay Johnson I think would definitely be interested in coming to LSU whereas Corbin probably not and I think Tennessee is going to do everything they can to keep Vitello.”
It certainly seems like LSU is swinging for the fences but Guilbeau believes Corbin could be tough to get.
“He’s got recruiting advantages at Vanderbilt that you really don’t have at LSU with scholarships and their private school status, everybody has a different way of getting players and he’s got a pretty good situation there.”
