A 17-year-old drown Tuesday after he was thrown from a horse in a retention pond. St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says Jacory Levier was on the horse when he led the horse into the pond.
“The horse didn’t like the idea of being in the water after it went over his neck, so he threw the rider, of course, the young man fell in the water and could not swim and drowned,” said Levier.
Guidroz says they received a call shortly before 6 PM on Tuesday night last night about a possible drowning at the retention pond near Beau Chene High School in the Grand Coteau area. He says divers recovered the teenager’s body about four hours later.
According to investigators, Levier had a friend watching him nearby, but he was the only one riding a horse. Guidroz says Levier was well thought of in the community and this is heartbreaking for the family.
The St. Landry Parish School system says Levier was a student at Port Barre High School.
