STEM and healthcare students who are nearing completion of their degree may be eligible to receive a Completers Grant from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance. LOSFA Director of Scholarships and Grants Deborah Paul said if you’re in one of those programs and have 30 or fewer hours left in your degree, you could get some extra financial help. The priority will go towards students who have exhausted financial aid from other sources.
“Some students may be no longer eligible to receive financial aid for whatever reason but are making academic progress. This grant will help those students pay their tuition and fees and move them towards graduation,” said Paul. “A grant is free money to the students, so it does not have to be repaid.”
Students can receive money up to their tuition and fees that appear on their fee bill. Money for the grant comes from the feds and was set aside for higher education support by Governor Edwards.
Paul said the state needs more math and science inclined workers and this grant is designed to assist aspiring nurses, programmers, math educators, and others pursuing high-demand work.
“All of those fields are related and help move our economy and drive the workforce, so if you are a STEM major or other high demand field those students will qualify,” said Paul.
To be eligible you must complete a FAFSA application and meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress benchmarks for the degree program.
