Now that the FDA has given full approval to the Pfizer COVID vaccine, LSU President William Tate says students will be required to be vaccinated or they will undergo regular COVID testing. Students have until September 10th to submit proof of their first vaccination and October 15th for their second vaccination.
“This is a research university, that vaccine has been researched very well and we believe it’s the best thing to consider to keep our doors for the rest of the semester,” said Tate.
Tate said if a student chooses not to be vaccinated for COVID they will have to undergo regular testing.
“If students don’t take the vaccination, which they have that right in Louisiana, they will be part of our testing protocol,” said Tate.
On Tuesday it was announced that Tiger fans will have to show proof vaccination or a negative PCR COVID test 72 prior to kick-off to ender Tiger Stadium. Tate said he hopes the vaccination requirement for students and fans will cause a run on vaccinations.
“My hope is we; we get so many people vaccinated that we can’t keep up, that’s what we want to have happen. But there is access to vaccinations, opportunity right here at LSU and here in Baton Rouge,” said Tate.
Students who are unvaccinated will be required to get tested periodically throughout the semester and those living on campus could be tested more frequently.
