Congressman Garret Graves says southeast Louisiana took a heck of a hit from Hurricane Ida. Graves’ district extends down into Thibodaux and lower Terrebonne Parish and he’s amazed by the widespread destruction the Category Four storm produced from storm surge to damaging winds.
“You have communities that have water and wastewater/sewer systems that are completely nonfunctional, you have folks stuck at their homes, because the roads are impassable, because of electrical lines and trees,” said Graves.
Graves says he’s amazed by the damage in LaPlace.
“When you come from the other side of the spillway, I mean there’s not single shingle on this roof, everything blew off, I saw brick walls blown down, there were things you really don’t see in the aftermath of a hurricane,” said Graves.
Fuel shortages are also a problem as Ida has created production and distribution issues. Graves says power is not the only issue refineries are facing and it’s a topic he’s discussed with the White House.
“Making sure we are thinking about the nitrogen is needed, thinking about whether or not this requires something like strategic petroleum reserve or looking at other sources of energy,” said Graves.
