The Louisiana Department of Health has revoked the licenses from the seven nursing homes that evacuated over 800 residents to a warehouse in Tangipahoa Parish as Hurricane Ida approached. LDH executive counsel Stephen Russo says Baton Rouge businessman Bob Dean owns the nursing homes.
“All seven facilities have failed to execute post-landfall preparedness plans to provide essential care and services to their residents,” said Russo.
Russo says their Medicaid provider agreements have been terminated.
The nursing homes are located in Orleans, Lafourche, Jefferson, and Terrebonne Parishes.
Hundreds of nursing home residents were evacuated to a warehouse facility in Tangipahoa Parish where conditions in the structure were eventually found by inspectors to have severely deteriorated.
Russo says an initial attempt at inspecting the warehouse was rebuffed by a person identifying himself as the nursing home owner.
Russo held back on litigating the case in the media, with the evacuation possibly linked to as many as seven patient deaths.
“I don’t think anyone else could reasonably reach a different conclusion that the standard of care for those residents, who are our most fragile residents, was not met,” said Russo.
The seven nursing homes are:
River Palms Nursing and Rehab in Orleans Parish.
South Lafourche Nursing and Rehab in Lafourche Parish.
Maison Orleans Healthcare Center in Orleans Parish.
Park Place Healthcare Nursing home in Jefferson Parish.
West Jefferson Health Care Center in Jefferson Parish.
Maison De Ville Nursing home in Terrebonne Parish.
Maison Deville Nursing home of Harvey in Jefferson Parish.
