Southwest Louisiana is under a Flash Flood Watch as Tropical Storm Nicholas heads up the southeast Texas coast. Donovan Landreneau with the National Weather Service says the amount of rain the Bayou State could see could climb as high as 20 inches. And storm surge could be an additional problem dished out by Nicholas.
“If you live in Cameron and Vermilion, you’re probably going to see a minor storm surge of one to three feet above normal,” said Landreneau.
Landreneau says rain bands will likely tell the story of how much rain areas of the state will receive from Nicholas.
“It all depends on where the rain bands set up, you could have little as two to three inches for storm totals, or as much as 15, maybe even 20 inches,” said Landreneau.
Landreneau says it’s too early to say which areas of the state will be subjected to the heaviest rainfall as the official forecast track calls for Nicholas to twist to the northeast as it exits Texas and the center of the storm to move through central Louisiana,
“Pretty much puts southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana right in the bullseye of these rainfall maximums. Where that’s going to set up, it still remains to be seen but the threat is there.”
