A disturbing viral Tik Tok video of an 18-year-old Covington High School student and teacher is making the rounds. Covington Police Sgt. Edwin Masters said they got involved after the Wednesday afternoon altercation in which the female student attacked a 64-year-old disabled teacher which caused her to go to the hospital.
“We also heard that this could be in relation to a Tik Tok challenge that is going around that is encouraging young adults and teenagers to vandalize things and assault people,” said Masters.
In the video, you can see the teacher sitting at her desk when a student who has been identified as Larrianna Jackson approaches. There is a brief discussion, you can’t hear them, but you can hear students who are filming say they are going to run if she goes through with it. Moments later the students scream as Jackson punches the teacher repeatedly.
Masters said during the investigation they learned of the video challenge and because of recent legislation which can also hold a person who knowingly films a crime responsible, the female student directly involved in the altercation might not be the only one charged.
“Yes, the matter is still under investigation, and we anticipate more arrests forthcoming,” said Masters.
Masters gives a stark warning for residents in Covington even thinking about participating in such a challenge that involves violence and/or destruction of property.
“Because if you do especially in the city limits of Covington, you will be arrested and you will be charged accordingly, you will be held accountable,” said Masters.
Jackson is charged with felony Battery of a School Teacher and is being held at the St. Tammany Parish Jail. The schoolteacher has been released from the hospital.
TikTok issued a statement on their Twitter page “The rumored ‘slap a teacher’ dare is an insult to teachers everywhere. And while this is not a trend on TikTok, if at any point it shows up, the content will be removed. Learn more about practicing responsible behavior here.”
