Republican U.S. Senator John Kennedy reports he has raised $15-million for his re-election campaign in 2022. Required campaign finance reports show Kennedy raised $3.25-million in the 3rd quarter of this year, and that he has nearly $10-million cash on hand. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the Kennedy figures are amazing.
“He has a year to go … He still has plenty of time to raise – I guess – another $10-million, if he really works hard at it; which he apparently is working very hard.”
In a press release Friday, Kennedy said “Louisianans continue to humble me with their support” and vows to continue to fight the liberal / progressive agenda. Pinsonat says, with a year before he must run for re-election, Kennedy is so popular with constituents he could quite likely raise another $10-million dollars.
“The business community is going to support him en masse, obviously. He’s doing well in Washington. He’s gained national notoriety. He’s on the shows that most Louisianans watch. He’s a Fox News regular. He’s a conservative idol up there,” said Pinsonat.
Pinsonat says a seated senator’s likelihood of being re-elected has a lot to do with the popularity of the man in the White House.
“Joe Biden is not very popular in Louisiana, to say the least. That’s another asset he has, so … we’re still a year out and anything can happen, but John Kennedy certainly is in a great position.”
Pinsonat says if Kennedy runs without a highly popular Republican challenger, his chances of another term are quite good.
Political newcomer Luke Mixon is the one announced challenger so far. He’s a Democrat who lives in Baton Rouge. A former Navy pilot and current commercial airline pilot.
