The LSU Tigers pulled off a stunning victory over the 20th ranked Florida Gators on Saturday. The Bayou Bengals were missing several starters on defense and their top receiver but still beat Florida 49-42. Coach Ed Orgeron says he felt good about his team heading into the game.
“These guys all week I felt were going to play very well, we knew it was going to be a battle, they came to fight today, that’s our motto, we are going to fight, we are going to fight the rest of the season, one day at a time, one game at a time, they did a tremendous job,” said Orgeron.
LSU got a record setting performance by junior running back Ty Davis-Price. The junior from Baton Rouge rushed for a school record 285 yards on 36 carries and also had three touchdowns. Davis-Price credits his o-line.
“(Offensive Coordinator Jake Peetz) Coach Peetz and the staff challenged us to create a running game, the o-line they’ve coming with it every day at the practice, busting their tails, doing extra work, I can’t be more proud of them,” said Davis-Price.
LSU rushed for 321 yards, while one of the top rushing attacks in college football, Florida, was held to 138 yards. The defense also forced four turnovers, which resulted in 21 points.
Senior linebacker Damone Clark had a game-sealing INT late in the fourth quarter. Clark says a player’s only meeting led by injured defensive end Andre Anthony put the team in right mind frame.
“We had a great week of practice, also with the offense, Dre led the player-only meeting on Monday and he told us how it was and we needed that, we just told each other that we are going out there to play for another and that’s what we did,” said Clark.
LSU will look to make it two straight wins this Saturday at 12th ranked Ole Miss, who held on to beat Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday night.
