Sports betting will be available at more casinos in Louisiana as early as this weekend. Until recently, only Paragon Casino in Marksville was operating a legal sportsbook. But State Gaming Control Board Commissioner Ronnie Johns says they issued four new licenses on Friday.
“The four properties are Harrah’s New Orleans, Boomtown in Harvey, L’Auberge in Baton Rouge and Horseshoe in Bossier City,” said Johns.
Earlier this year, state lawmakers approved the regulations and how the activity will be taxed. It allows for the state’s casinos and horse tracks to offer sports betting and the Louisiana Lottery can oversee kiosks that will can be placed at bars and restaurants where bets can be made.
Johns is hopeful other casinos will get their licenses soon.
“We will continue to work really hard on these nine other applications to try and get them licensed as quickly as possible,” said Johns.
L’Auberge in Baton Rouge says it will open its sports book on Monday, while Boomtown Casino in Harvey will begin taking sports bets on Tuesday, according to the Lt. Governor’s office. Meanwhile, the Caesars Sportsbook inside Harrah’s Casino in New Orleans will take its first best on Sunday at 7 AM.
That’s several hours before the Saints will host the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs lead the NFC South with a 6-1 record, while the Saints are 4-and-2. Kick-off is at 3:25.
Horseshoe in Bossier City also planning to open a sports book on Sunday.
