A 34-year-old Crowley man is awaiting extradition from Austin County, Texas where he’s in custody for the beating death of his mother, Pamela Meyers. Acadia Parish Sheriff K P Gibson says that Stephen Wayne Meyers the Second is facing a second-degree murder charge. “There were some circumstances where she and her son were together on the second (Nov. 2) in the evening hours and that was the last time she was seen,” said Sheriff Gibson.
The sheriff says upon further investigation and search of the property on Saturday the 59-year-old victim was discovered deceased in a field near Bamboo Road. Investigators have not determined the motive for the killing and say no weapons were used in the attack on the woman.
Sheriff Gibson on what led investigators to thoroughly search the field where Meyers and his mother were last seen together on November 2nd. He says, “different signs of things moved around, tracks that were marked up, and then we started searching the area and found Ms. Meyers deceased on the property where she was last seen with her son.”
Sheriff Gibson says it’s unclear what the motive for the deadly attack was. “I can’t say clearly why he did this…but we do know for a fact that he did so. We don’t know if he was irate over any specific issue,” according to Sheriff Gibson.
Gibson says there were no witnesses to the crime that was discovered four days after family members reported that she had disappeared with her adult son. Meyers has since waived extradition and will be returned from Texas to Louisiana on second-degree murder and other unrelated charges.
