Over the past 30 days, Louisiana State troopers say they’ve seized more than six million dollars in illegal narcotics during numerous traffic stops across the state. Trooper William Huggins says on Wednesday a traffic stop in St. Tammany Parish led to the discovery of a large quantity of suspected meth. “During the course of that traffic stop they were able to locate and seize 18 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine,” said Huggins.
The street value of the haul is estimated at more than two million dollars. A Texas man, 47-year-old Ricardo Guevara, was arrested on drug-related charges.
Huggins says the makeup of the drug seizures during the traffic stops included large quantities of meth. He tells us, “specifically what was in that six million dollars was approximately was 37.5 kilograms of methamphetamine and that’s worth an estimated four-point-six million.”
Huggins says it’s hard to tell if more drugs are crossing the state’s highways. “These drug trafficking organizations are getting a lot smarter and a lot better at doing it and we need to continue as an agency to stay focused on it,” said Huggins.
During the traffic stops over the past month, troopers also seized 577 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated one-point-six-million dollars, three-point-five kilograms of cocaine, and a variety of other illegal narcotics.
