“The temperatures were mostly below freezing across Louisiana this morning with temperatures in the upper 30s along the coastal zone, in fact this morning Shreveport dropped all the way down to 26, it was 29 in Baton Rouge and New Orleans even got down to 35,” said Keim.
Keim said we’ll only see highs in the upper 40s today so don’t expect the sun to warm us up too much.
As for Tuesday AM, Keim said it will be much of a repeat of this morning with basically everything north of I-10 waking up to freezing temps.
“And then we’re going to go into a modest warming trend, so this real cold weather will be pretty fleeting and we’re going to have high temperatures in the 70s across south Louisiana by Wednesday and Thursday,” said Keim.
With another chilly night on tap, many will be using space heaters to keep warm. State Fire Marshal’s Office Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue said keep anything that can catch on fire at least three to five feet away from the heating unit.
“You want to make sure that that space heater is plugged directly into the wall and not into an extension cord, and certainly don’t have those extension cords plugged into each other to create a chain,” said Rodrigue.
Rodrigue also reminds you to never use your stove or oven to heat a home because it increases your chances of fire and or carbon monoxide poisoning.
