Marksville Rep Daryl Andrew Deshotel
When Republican Representative Daryl Deshotel of Marksville deposited $1 million of his own into his campaign account it sent up a flare that the freshman lawmaker might have his eye on a higher office. When asked Deshotel said he’s thinking about it and with the Lieutenant Governor and possibly State Treasurer running for Governor, things are opening up.
“And if I can help, help our state then I want to be in a position to be able to do that, and if not, I want to be able to support a good candidate,” said Deshotel.
As for which statewide office Deshotel is leaning towards, he said he’s keeping it open-ended for the time being.
“And again, it’s where I can help our state the most, that’s really the thought process and until other things shake out we don’t really know where that’s going to be,” said Deshotel.
43-year-old Deshotel is in his second year as a lawmaker and was able to place one million in his campaign account due sale of his former companies Detel Wireless and Detel Computer Solutions. Deshotel said the state needs to invest in infrastructure beyond roads and bridges.
“If we’re going to compete in the U.S., we have to have a digital infrastructure, and that’s some of the bills I started running, investing in our broadband infrastructure. I believe that’s a fundamental foundation that we need to start to build,” said Deshotel.
Deshotel said he hasn’t set a timeline on when he might make an announcement for higher office.
