We’re in the thick of Mardi Gras season and New Orleans and Company spokesperson Kelly Schulz said you can’t underestimate the economic, cultural, emotional, and impact of Mardi Gras 2022. Schulz said there’s plenty of pent-up demand to return to the beloved tradition of carnival season.
“There’s a lot of demand from visitors to come to the city and I think that this Mardi Gras is also something that our locals really need as well and are very much looking forward to,” said Schulz.
Schulz said people were lining up as early as 8 o’clock Friday morning along parade routes for the evening parades.
In addition to anticipation from locals, Schulz said hotel-wise things are indicative of a good turnout from tourists.
“For Mardi Gras weekend many of the hotels are in the high 80% range when it comes to occupancy. So that’s a very good sign people are wanting to come to New Orleans,” said Schulz.
And Schulz said that’s also a good indicator of strong turnout for festival season.
In addition to hotel occupancy increasing Schulz said King Cake sales are off the charts this year and bakeries are having a hard time keeping up with demand.
“I think if King Cake sales are any indication of how many people are going to come out and enjoy the parades, we’re going to have pretty packed parade routes all over the city and all over the region for so many wonderful Mardi Gras activities,” said Schulz.
