Louisiana set a new record at the pump today with the statewide average of $4.04 for a gallon of regular gas. AAA Fuel Analyst Don Redman said he’s afraid this is just the beginning when it comes to breaking records for prices at the pump.
“About three cents higher than the previous high that we saw in 2008, unfortunately just looking at the horizon it doesn’t look like we are going to stop here and but that prices are going to continue to climb,” said Redman.
It was just last week when Redman said motorists should budget for gas prices to exceed $4.00 a gallon. He said it’s also too soon to predict how the ban on Russian oil will impact prices.
“I can’t tell you where the ceiling is, and I certainly don’t want to be responsible for causing any kind of panic, but just know that we’re going to be in for some tough weeks ahead for sure,” said Redman.
In the meantime, though Redman recommends trying to minimize errands to save gas and check your tire pressure, so your vehicle is more fuel-efficient.
“Underinflated vehicles can deprive your fuel efficiency by 30% so make sure your tires are properly inflated,” said Redman.
Also, remove any dead weight from your vehicle, like golf clubs or anything else that’s adding weight to your car.
