There’s a possibility of snow north of I-20 on Friday.
“And really the window is from late in the afternoon to the overnight hours ending by midnight,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Armani Cassel.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until midnight Friday for the state’s northern parishes with less than an inch of accumulation.
The rest of the Bayou State will dodge raindrops today but with the ongoing drought, state climatologist Barry Keim says it won’t be enough to make a dent in the rain gauge.
“Eventually this rain is going to clear out for the weekend, but the front is going to usher in some really, really cold weather, so winter’s not over with yet folks,” said Keim.
Keim says highs today will be in the low 60s in northern parishes and in the upper 70s as you move south and tonight the mercury takes a dip.
“Temperatures will likely to be in the upper 20s across northern parishes on Saturday morning, with 30s and 40s further south in Louisiana and the temperatures are only going to climb into the 50s in the afternoon,” said Keim.
After enjoying almost early summer-like temperatures for the last few days Cassel the wintery mix of weather shouldn’t present too many driving hazards.
“The main hazard will be elevated roads, particularly elevated bridges, and overpassed with any accumulations. Since it’s been warmer for several days that’s going to limit the threat,” said Cassel.
On Sunday the cold temps continue with the 30s in the morning with highs only reaching into the 60s.
