Louisiana Senator John Kennedy raised more than $5 million in the first quarter of 2022 for a total of $14 million for his re-election campaign. And while the senator is known for his quick wit, Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat said the dollar signs are indicative of Kennedy’s ability to raise money.
“The business community obviously likes him, that’s where this money is coming from. Individuals give money, but also the small businesspeople in Louisiana, apparently, he’s very popular with,” said Pinsonat.
Pinsonat said while Kennedy is heavily predicted to win re-election the state’s junior senator knows all too well to be extremely prepared given the current political divide in DC.
“We never know what candidate will pop up before they qualify, so Kennedy’s not taking any chances, he is raising millions of dollars, and he will continue raising millions of dollars,” said Pinsonat.
And because Kennedy will receive national support from Republicans and out-of-state political action committees, Pinsonat said that means his more than $14 million will go even further.
“He doesn’t have to raise money attacking his opponents he’ll have plenty of the Republican party types doing that for him. So, that means he has an enormous amount of money to spend promoting himself,” said Pinsonat.
So far Democrats Gary Chambers and Luke Mixon have announced their intent to run against Kennedy.
