Like the rest of America, Louisiana has a shortage of professional truck drivers, and women are encouraged to take up a career on the road. Louisiana Motor Transport Association executive director Renee Amar says females make up a little over half the U.S. workforce, yet they are under-represented in trucking.
“There’s a large disparity in the number of female truck drivers that we have, we are currently running around 10% of the professional drivers in female drivers,” said Amar.
There are currently thousands of professional trucking jobs available in the U.S. Amar says many do consider driving a truck a “man’s job”, but women can be just as skilled at the profession.
“They process information faster, some of this can be proven scientifically and most women are much more detail-oriented,” said Amar
Amar says hours can be flexible and interested drivers can go to lmta.la.
“And we just want women to start seeing themselves behind the wheel, there are some really good, great paying jobs out there,” said Amar.
