Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory announces that he has voluntarily checked himself into an in-patient rehabilitation facility for 21 days. Guillory says he never drank before or during working hours but he believes he’s addicted to alcohol and untreated Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
“You got both of those issues hanging over your head that can be a problem and you need to get it addressed, so hopefully from a personal standpoint he can get back on track,” said KLAF and KADN TV news anchor Jeff Horchak.
Guillory is a combat veteran and served as a Platoon Leader in the U.S. Cavalry during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. He began his term as Lafayette Mayor-President in 2020 and one of his first challenges was the COVID-19 pandemic. Horchak says this is Guillory’s first job in politics.
“Politics is not easy, it’s a stressful job, he’s had to deal with it the best way he can, but I am glad to see he’s getting some help,” said Horchak. “I don’t think a lot of people realized that this was an issue.”
Horachak says because of his elected position, special arrangements have been made allowing him to remain available and in daily communication with Lafayette City-Parish Attorney Greg Logan and Chief Administrative Officer Cydra Wingerter.
“He said through the email that he’s got everything set up with LCG (Lafayette Consolidated Government) to handle everything for 21 days, so I guess time will tell how that goes,” said Horchak.
