Students are heading back to school this week in Louisiana, and many parents are proudly sharing pictures on social media. Carmen Million of the Better Business Bureau is asking you to think twice before sharing information.
“Well first of all you need to be very cautious of not only sharing the pictures but specific information because it just allows scammers out there an opportunity to steal your information, your identity and of course know where your child is,” she warns.
Million urges youto be diligent about your security information if you do decide to share.
“Don’t give any specific details. Always review your security settings. You want to make sure that all of your social media platforms are protected,” Million advises and adds that you should change your passwords frequently too.
She adds that if you don’t think like a criminal you might be surprised how smart scammers can be.
“They can take this information and target a particular person. They already have the names in most cases. It’s not hard for them to put one and one together and get two,” Million says.
