Central Louisiana Technical Community College, along with others in the state, is offering a nine-week course to receive heavy equipment certification and students can also earn a commercial driver’s license. CLTCC’s Vice Chancellor of Workforce Development Misty Slayter says the enrollment is also cost accessible.
“Those who fall into that low to moderate income level will have reduced or no cost to participate in the program, and that’s a tremendous opportunity,” she
USDA NRCS Montanasays.
Slayter says the program is called PRO Louisiana, which stands for Professional Resilience Occupations, and it will help train potential workers for future infrastructure projects.
“It does pay attention not only to the workforce that is needed but also trying to re-engage people to the workforce that are not currently engaged or out of work,” Slayter says.
The program will help ensure a trained workforce for not only infrastructure projects in Louisiana but also broadband installations. Slayter adds the opportunity could be life-changing.
“It’s a nine-week program and will be immediately followed by a Class A CDL course, and that’s about six weeks long, so you’re looking at about fifteen weeks in changing the dynamic of a household income,” Slayter says.
