The Louisiana Department of Health responded to the water crisis in Mississippi by deploying a four-person drinking water engineering team to Jackson after severe damage from flooding.
GOHSEP Spokesperson Mike Steele says the team is well equipped and experienced for these types of disasters. “The team that the Louisiana Department Of Health was able to send out there has about 86 years between four team members of experience in working through these types of water quality issues”
LDH team members were proactive due to the EMAC act. Steele says this allows different states to become allies in a time of need.”The Emergency Management Assistance Compact is a state-to-state agreement that allows resources and personnel to be sent after a disaster.”
Steele proceeded, saying Louisiana was glad to help after receiving assistance from other states during Louisiana’s natural disasters. “Several teams of first responders and emergency management personnel have come into Louisiana to help out. It’s great when we can offer those resources to other states.”
