LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte connected early and often in the Tigers 45-35 win over the Florida Gators. Coach Brian Kelly believes the game was a big step for the duo and the Tigers offense.
“They made big plays, and that’s what sometimes you need is your big-time players have to step up, and I think that was the first time this year that our best players stepped up to that level and made plays.”
LSU will host seventh-ranked Ole Miss this Saturday just two weeks after Tennessee silenced the home crowd. Even with the disappointing loss, Coach Kelly says the team learned from their first top-ten opponent and is more prepared for the upcoming challenge this time around.
“They learned a lot about intentionality and purpose in terms of their preparation, and we saw that during the week and it carried over to the way they played on the road. I think then you win on the road in the fashion that they did and you build more confidence in your football team.”
The Rebels now sit alone atop the west after Alabama’s loss to Tennessee, giving LSU the opportunity to tie for first, but Kelly still thinks it’s too early to focus on the long-term implications of the game.
“I think it’s too early to talk in terms of that. I think there’s just too much football left to be played. What we’re gonna talk about is how we play better at home in front of our fans against a top-ten team. I mean our focus will be on ourselves more so than what that means.”
Kickoff is set for 2:30 in Tiger Stadium Saturday.
