Gas prices took a slight drop along with the temps in Louisiana. Don Redman with AAA Louisiana said the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the Bayou State today is $3.39.
“We’re down just modestly in the past couple of days. A week ago, we were three cents cheaper. So, we had crept up. In fact, AAA had been advising its members to start budgeting about $3.50 a gallon because there are so many uncertainties,” said Redman.
Redman said it doesn’t appear as if prices will get that high because now prices are slowly retreating.
He said however it’s good news, bad news situation. Redman said prices are going down due to a drop in crude oil prices. He said it’s dropped to $82 a barrel which is about $10 down from a couple of weeks ago.
“That’s coming down largely because of global concern of an economic downturn. In fact, according to the Department of Energy, the demand in the past week has dropped off significantly from what it was previously,” said Redman.
As for gas prices for the holiday travel season, because surveys indicate more people plan to cut back on their travel budget, Redman said the futures markets are predicting lower gas prices.
“Looks like we could be looking at prices close to $3.10 by the time we get closer to the holidays,” said Redman.
A week ago a regular gallon of gas in Louisiana was $3.36 a gallon, a month ago it was $3.15, and a year ago it was $3.07.
