The drawing for Saturday’s Powerball Jackpot hits an all-time high at $1.6 billion, with a cash value of $782.4 million. Louisiana Lottery Spokesperson Dustin Annison said the current multi-state Powerball Jackpot has been growing since August 6, 2022.
“And it is the largest jackpot in the history of the Powerball game and also the largest U.S. jackpot in history,” said Annison.
Lotto fever has definitely afflicted players in Louisiana, Annison said since the beginning of August, Powerball ticket sales in the Bayou State through Thursday night are over $25.5 million.
“And just for the last week alone, we’ve seen sales of nearly $10.1 million so it’s definitely been a nice uptick of ticket sales in Louisiana,” said Annison.
And if you’re among those who’ve purchased a ticket this jackpot run or any ticket for that matter, Annison said even if your numbers don’t hit, know that your contribution does go to a good cause.
“Every play that a Louisiana Lottery player plays, has a purpose in our state, at least 25% of all sales throughout the year goes to K-12 education,” said Annison.
Since the state joined Powerball in 1995, there have been 17 jackpot-winning tickets purchased in Louisiana and the last one was in 2018.
“We’re due,” said Annison.
To be eligible for the largest jackpot in U.S. history, tickets must be purchased by 9 PM Saturday.
