The first item on today’s ballot is the U-S Senate race. Republican John Kennedy is seeking a second term and faces a dozen other challengers. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says Kennedy has an excellent chance to win without a runoff, because his three main Democratic challengers, Gary Chambers, Luke Mixon, and Syrita Steib failed to boost their name recognition
“They didn’t have a lot of money, they’re not on television. Kennedy is spending an enormous amount of money on television,” said Pinsonat.
Pinsonat says Republicans are more energized for this election which should push him over the 50-percent mark, which is what Kennedy needs to avoid a run-off.
He says Louisiana’s Third Congressional District is an interesting race. Incumbent Clay Higgins is seeking re-election. He has the support of Congressman Steve Scalise and former President Donald Trump. But his opponent, attorney Holden Hoggatt has grabbed endorsements from two former Congressmen, Chris John and Charles Boustany, and former U.S. Senator John Breaux.
“So that is an unusual race for Louisiana where you have Republicans fighting it out among themselves with heavy-weight endorsements coming in from out of state,” said Pinsonat.
Polls close at 8 p.m.
