Andrew Lincoln of Webster Parish was awarded a Life Saving Award by Sheriff Jason Parker Monday for his heroic actions that saved a woman’s life. On the morning of October 9, Lincoln was responding to a towing call on Highway 164 and came upon a crashed vehicle. He parked his truck in the middle of the road and looked to see if there was anyone inside the burning vehicle, but the driver’s door was jammed shut by the crash.
“Couldn’t get in there to get her out through the driver’s door, so I went through the passenger’s side and was able to eventually get her out of there. It all happened in a few minutes.”
As the flames increased, Lincoln struggled to pull the female out of the vehicle. Despite the smoke and heat of the flames, Lincoln was able to use the shirt off his back to pull the victim out of the car to safety.
“That’s when I knew it was serious because it didn’t melt my jeans but it made them stiff— the fire coming out from under the car.”
Lincoln said that if they had taken “another five minutes and they would’ve been planning a funeral.”
He said he still keeps in touch with the woman who sustained serious injuries in the crash and was eager to share news of her recovery and admired the progress she’s made…
“Her grandmother has kept my wife up to date on her progress, so I did learn yesterday that she went back to work.”
Lincoln said he was simply “glad to be at the right place at the right time.”
