It’s Cyber Monday, one of the busiest online shopping days of the year. Carmen Million, president of the Central-Louisiana Better Business Bureau, said before you enter your payment information, do your homework, and make sure it’s a legitimate website.
“Check the site to see for any misspellings, you want to check to see if it’s secure with HTTPS. And find out where the company is actually located before you make that purchase,” said Million.
Million said to also check that your anti-virus software is up to date on your computer and/or phone before you make an online purchase.
And when making an online purchase use your credit card, not a debit card.
“That way if you don’t receive the merchandise or if it’s misleading or you have a problem, you have the opportunity to dispute the charge before you actually pay for it,” said Million.
And while there are plenty of bargains to be found today, Million said you might get an even bigger discount if you sign up for loyalty programs with some retailers.
“There are offers out there, just make sure you shop around and investigate the companies before you sign up for those rewards,” said Million.
Million said when you do sign up for loyalty or rewards programs know that you will be on their email lists.
She also advises that you understand return policies, just in case, before you complete your purchase.
