Covington Police have announced an arrest in an apparent double homicide where two people were burned beyond recognition. Sgt. Edwin Masters says the victims were found in an alleyway behind a glass company in downtown Covington Monday morning.
“We can’t even tell whether it was male or female at this time because of how burned they were,” said Masters.
Monday afternoon, Covington Police arrested 49-year-old Antonio Donde Tyson and charged him with two counts of first degree murder, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of obstruction of justice, one count of resisting an officer and one-count of illegal possession of stolen things.
Masters says the investigation is still ongoing and the identification of the victims has not been determined. The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office will release that information at a later time.
“It’s absolutely heartbreaking for everybody in Covington because we’re a quiet and relatively safe community that doesn’t experience things like this,” said Masters.
WWL-TV in New Orleans says retired priest Otis Young and pastoral associate at St. Peter Catholic Church Ruth Prats have been missing since Sunday night.
Authorities will release more information during a Tuesday morning press conference.
